The Fiji Manufacturers Association has supported suggestions from Fiji's Electricity Authority for 40 businesses to generate their own power.

President Desmond Whiteside says businesses should generate their own power if they can and at the same time help the power shortage.

However, the Fiji Employers Federation President, Dixon Seeto, has questioned who will subsidize the extra costs that will be incurred by the businesses that do generate their own power.

Fiji Village says the FEA will ask 40 businesses in the country to generate their own electricity as there is a water shortage at the Monasavu Dam and not enough to generate power for everyone.
