25 Solomon Islands medical students have left the country today for Cuba to undergo six years medical training.

The 20 male and 5 females comprise the second batch of medical students from Solomon Islands to be sent to Cuba under a bilateral agreement between the two countries for Cuban medical training.

The students were accompanied by a Cuban medical doctor currently serving in the country under the same agreement.

There are already 25 medical students from the Solomon Islands studying in Cuba.

According to the Ministry of Health and Medical Services once these 50 medical students graduate, it should meet the country's demand for doctors.

The Ministry also says that out of the 110 doctors the country has, one third of them are serving outside the country.
