Fiji's interim Government assists villages to develop self sustaining tourism

The Fiji interim Government is assisting villages to develop self sustaining tourism projects that not only preserve culture but help them financially.

Under its Human Resources Development Program it has a pilot community based tourism project, beginning with Molituva in Kuku village near Nausori.

The project at Molituva centres on an old fort which it is hoped will become a sightseeing attraction where handicrafts will be sold.

Semi Laligavoka manages the site and is also teaching and supervising the young adults in the village.

This is aimed at rebuilding their interest in making traditional infrastructure such as the bures, which have all been made by hand and with natural materials to emulate a fort as it would have been constructed in the old days.
