The international mining enterprise Nautilus Minerals is confident it will be able to develop the Solwara-One deepsea mining project off Papua New Guinea with little impact to the environment and the community.
Solwara-One is located 50 kilometres north of Rabaul in the Bismarck Sea and at a depth of 1,600 meters.
In a presentation to the Deep Sea Tailing Placement conference, Nautilus environment manager Sam Smith said the company was committed to setting a high standard in developing the world's first seafloor copper mine.
According to the Post Courier newspaper, the next steps in the environmental permitting process will begin with a public hearing program
This is to be done in the coming months.
