Fiji interim regime's National Council to finish job in December

4:13 pm on 18 November 2008

The National Council for Building a Better Fiji is set to conclude its operations in less than a month.

Its director John Samy has told the Fiji Times that it should have finished work at the end of October, but asked for more time to consult the people.

The interim regime set up the council to help prepare a so-called People's charter which the interim prime minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, wants to put in place before elections will be held.

The plans includes a new electoral system.

Mr Samy says as soon as he has finished his contract, he will leave Fiji and move back to New Zealand.
