American Samoas' governor and lieutenant governor to be sworn into office in January

American Samoa governor Togiola Tulafono and lieutenant governor Faoa Ipulasi Sunia will be sworn into office on the 3rd of January.

The Election Office says the deadline for contesting the results of the November 18 gubernatorial run-off election has expired and the results are now "official."

No challenges were filed in the high court over the run off race.

According to the official results, of the 11,674 ballots counted, Togiola and Faoa won by 1,506 votes with 6,590 ballots, 56.5 percent, while the challenger, Utu Abe Malae and Nua Mailo Saoluaga garnered 5,084 votes 43.5 percent.

The next step is the for the incumbent Administration to set the inauguration program, or select an inauguration committee to prepare the event.
