French officials say New Caledonia's economy is withstanding the international financial crisis well.

The organisation issuing money for France's overseas possessions says in the third quarter of this year household consumption and investment have kept pointing up.

For the last quarter, business leaders expect an improvement of the business climate.

There is however concern that with the drop in the price of nickel, the trade deficit is set to widen.
