More talk of no confidence motions in Vanuatu

8:09 pm on 1 December 2008

Vanuatu's Speaker of Parliament, George Wells, has announced that a new motion of no confidence against the Prime Minister made by 11 Opposition MPs is not in order.

The Daily Post newspaper reports the Speaker saying it was out of order because it was deposited too late.

However the second mover of the motion, Opposition Whip, Moana Carcasses, says if the Speaker does not endorse the motion then the Opposition will take this to Court.

And opposition MPs have indicated that if the court rules the motion is not in order, they may call an extra-ordinary session of Parliament at which they can re-launch the matter.

This is the fourth attempted motion of no-confidence against Prime Minister Edward Natapei since he formed a coalition government less than three months ago.
