American Samoan governor warns about scams

1:59 pm on 2 December 2008

The American Samoan Governor Togiola Tulafono has warned the public about off-island con-artists scamming local residents through Internet lotto and similar schemes.

Togiola says he is concerned with the drastic increase of such schemes which target local residents via the Internet.

He says the public should fully check out the facts with local authorities before sending any bank, personal information or money to off-island solicitors.

Togiola says it's very hard for law enforcement around the world to track down these con-artists because they continue to move from one country to another or use an address in one country while operating from another country.
