Fiji's Women's Rights Movement says parents need to be better informed about the anti-cervical-cancer vaccine, Gardasil.
Officials are rushing to vaccinate more than 30,000 girls between 9 and 12 years of age before the vaccine expires in June.
Between 100 and 200 women in Fiji are diagnosed with that cancer each year and most of them die, and only 10 percent of women have access to pap smears.
So far about 63 percent of eligible girls have been immunised with the first of three doses and health officials say negative media coverage is to blame.
But the Women's Rights Movement 's director, Virisila Buadromo, believes there isn't enough information available, which leaves parents confused.
"The real responsibility came down to the ministry of health. They really didn't spend enough time raising awareness within the community, talking to the school and parents. There really wasn't enough time to raise a public debate on the issue."
Virisila Buadromo says the vaccine is safe.
