Samoa's biggest private employer Yazaki Samoa Ltd is optimistic that the government will provide a rescue package for the company.

Yazaki, which manufactures wire harnesses for vehicles, will have laid off 80 employees by the end of the month after overseas customers reduced orders.

Yazaki's General Manager, Funefeai Oliva Vaai, says they will try their best to stay afloat.

"I think it's to do with how we actually go forward from here. I think as you know Mitsubishi Australia closed down shop earlier in the year and we were supplying them. And there's also the relocation of General Motors that's Holden Australia warehouse and manufacturing, that's been transferred to Indonesia. So I think its those things that we are looking at how we can actually survive especially with the competition from Asia."

Funefeai Oliva Vaai says the company, which has been in Samoa since 1991, is implementing internal improvements and cost cutting measures.
