An independent MP in Samoa who recently quit the opposition, Tuia Fuatogi Paepae Letoa, is reported to have joined the ruling Human Rights Protection Party or HRPP.

Tuia's move has caused disappointment to caucus members of the newly formed Tautua Samoa party he was involved to set up.

The party's interim chairman, Lealailepule Rimoni Aiafi, says Tuia took part in the ruling HRPP's fundraising drive and birthday celebration held in New Zealand last week

Tuia is one of two MPs for the Safata constituency in Parliament and left the opposition just days before the Tautua Samoa party opened its new office.

Meanwhile, Tuia has not given any reasons as to why he left the opposition.
