NZ names new Cook Islands High Commissioner

Career diplomat Tia Barrett has been named by New Zealand's Foreign Minister Murray McCully as the country's next High Commissioner to the Cook Islands.

Mr Barrett, who replaces the late Brian Donnelly this month, is currently director of the Maori Policy Unit at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and has extensive Pacific experience.

He has previously served as High Commissioner in both Solomon Islands and Fiji, and has also served in Tonga and New Caledonia.
