The American Samoa TeleCommunications Authority has requested the Federal Communications Commission to cancel or reduce the fine levied against ASTCA for failure to file in November 2007 its hearing aid compatibility status report.

On December 5th ASTCA's legal counsel Gwen Tauiliili-Langkilde responded to the notice and requested a cancellation or reduction of the 6-thousand US dollars, saying it is warranted in this case.

She also points out that the proposed fine will eventually be passed on to ASTCA ratepayers in American Samoa.

She says 61 percent of the territory's population live below poverty level.
