A United States federal court judge has dismissed the criminal charges against Samoa Member of Parliament Hans Joachim Keil, based on a motion filed by the U.S attorney's office in Springfield, Missouri.
The government's motion filed in court does not say the reasons for dropping the charges, except to say that in the interest of justice, asked the court to dismiss the case without prejudice.
The government's motion was filed yesterday and immediately thereafter U.S. District Court judge James England granted the motion.
Mr Keil's U.S. based attorney, John Kizer, says he is pleased with the government decision to drop the case and this move vindicates Mr Keil's claims that he is and has always been a U.S. citizen.
Mr Keil was arrested September 10th and charged with one count of falsely and willfully representing himself to be a U.S. citizen and one count of willfully and knowingly using and attempting to use a U.S. passport.
