Pacific leaders to meet over Fiji issue in Papua New Guinea on January 27th

The Premier of Niue and Chair of the Pacific Islands Forum, Toke Talagi says some Forum countries have lost patience with Fiji's interim regime over its failure to set an election date.

The interim Prime Minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, has recently suggested elections could be held in 2010, a year later than an earlier commitment to Forum leaders.

Mr Talagi has told Radio Australia that a special Forum summit to discuss progress towards elections being made by Fiji will take place in Papua New Guinea on January the 27th next year.

The Forum Chair says given that Commodore Bainimarama had gone back on his word it would be difficult to accept any future commitment.
