The Solomon Islands Police have agreed to help Nauru with the disposal of a bomb found in an industrial area on the island.

The acting Police Commissioner, Peter Marshall says the two officers leave today for Nauru after a formal request.

He says it's the first time such a request has been made.

"We are delighted that they have recognised the expertise of our explosives ordinance division personnel who are highly trained, two members will be flying to Nauru, they will be there for 36 hours and will then be returning back to Solomon Islands."

He says the Nauru government is paying for all the expenses.
