American Samoa Power Authority says OPM can import fuel

10:03 am on 19 December 2008

The American Samoa Power Authority has been given approval by the ASG Office of Petroleum Management to import and distribute fuel in the territory.

Sione Kava said OPM approval is necessary for any new importer and distributor that enters the local market.

Mr Kava said with Mobil Oil leaving the island, the territory would have been left with only one supplier, British Petroleum Southwest Pacific.

He cited that BP was also leaving so OPM needed to make sure that the territory would receive a continuous supply of fuel.
