Samoa's biggest private employer, Yazaki Samoa, has paid its end of year bonuses to its long serving workers, despite its current financial crisis and 80 staff being laid off.

The employees got their bonus payments last Friday before the company closed for Christmas and New Year's holidays.

A company source says the company has yet to receive the approved aid package from the government as a result of the company's request.

Meanwhile the Prime Minister, Tuila'epa Sailele Malielegaoi, told reporters one of Yazaki's requests for the government to purchase one of the company's buildings for more than 2 million US dollars has been rejected.

This means Yazaki will not get a 5 million US dollars support as previously reported according to the prime minister but government has considered other kinds of assistance such as a drop in taxes and tariffs for the company's imported raw materials.
