2:36 pm on 23 December 2008

The Fiji National Council for Disabled Persons is conducting nationwide statistical research on persons with disabilities.

The aim is to identify what programmes are most appropriate.

The Council's field research officer, Sainimili Tawake, says it will focus on women and girls, their condition and status and accessibility to paid jobs, health services and legal assistance.

She says the census would help in the identifying and delivery of appropriate disability programs and services, including the development of relevant policies and legislation for people with disabilities especially for women.
