American Samoa's governor Togiola Tulafono has publicly declared his support of the American Samoa Power Authority becoming a petroleum supplier.

The move was approved last week by the government's Office of Petroleum Management.

The governor made the announcement on his weekend radio program saying he supports ASPA's venture after considering the fact Mobil Oil announced its departure from American Samoa leaving only BP Southwest Pacific Ltd without any competition.
