More support for clamp on pokies in the Northern Marianas

The Northern Marianas Senate President has expressed support to a resolution seeking to eliminate all pokie machines, except those at licensed casinos, in the CNMI by next June.

Pete Reyes told the Saipan Tribune he is in favour of relocating the pokie machines to a zoned area and eventually phasing them out.

He says the poker machine business is not a good thing for the people of the Northern Marianas.

Mr Reyes says there are a lot of families suffering because of addiction to pokies.

There are reportedly 680 pokie machines on Saipan, 52 on Tinian, and 59 on Rota.
