Niue's premier is to meet with Reef Shipping in Auckland next month, to discuss issues surrounding the company's mothballed fish processing plant.
New Zealand based Reef Shipping shut its Niue plant a year ago, but Toke Talagi has said the lower cost of fuel and the lower dollar have raised the prospects of a re-opening next year.
This week, he met the New Zealand's foreign minister, Murray McCully, and says they discussed the future of the plant.
"And let me also point out, the reasons why we're so keen on fisheries is because we've got such a huge farm out there. A whole huge area of the sea that we can use to harvest the bounty of the sea. And we've got to work our way through to determine which is the best way to do that so that we can use that resource to help make us more self-sustaining into the future."
