Samoa police sex abuse case still under review

2:57 pm on 12 January 2009

Samoa's Attorney General, Aumua Ming Leung Wai, is reviewing the outcome of a police inquiry into sexual harassment allegations against a senior police officer before a decision will be made if criminal charges are warranted.

It is the second senior officer to have been investigated for sexual harassment allegations since one of the assistant police commissioners was suspended last year and charged with five counts of assault including an indecent assault.

The latest sexual harassment complaint against a senior officer was lodged to the police by a former ex-juvenile inmate who was serving a jail sentence at the Olomanu Juvenile Rehabilitation center two years ago.

The details of the allegations are being withheld because the Attorney General believes it would be premature to release them as he is yet to decide whether the matter will proceed.
