There is a meeting of American Samoa's territorial government officials and local stakeholders set for today to continue discussions on local projects that could be funded with any new money the territory may receive under a federal stimulus economic package by President-elect Barack Obama.

During his State of the Territorial Address on Monday at a joint session of the Fono, Governor Togiola Tulafono revealed that this week a number of government agencies and stakeholders will meet to consider and review projects slated for Obama's federal stimulus package.

Governor Togiola said the result is that some of the local Capital Improvement Projects and economic development projects will be packaged and put forth to Congress for their consideration for emergency funding in order to stimulate the local economy.

Today the team will get together and put the projects in a schedule and present it to the governor, who will then take it to Washington D.C. tonight when he travels to the nation's capital for President-elect Obama's inauguration ceremony on January 20.

The first meeting was held Tuesday and those in attendance presented their lists of pertinent projects, which includes the Rainmaker Hotel redevelopment, airport terminal improvement, acquaculture, primary industry, alternative energy, including solar power, and cable car restoration.
