American Samoa's Inter Island Airways licence expires

11:57 am on 19 January 2009

American Samoa's Inter Island Airways' licence to fly to Samoa has expired and the airline has filed an application for an extension.

However, the approval for an extension no longer rests with the Samoa Civil Aviation authority but the headquarters of the Pacifica Islands Air Services Association or PIASA.

A spokesman for the airline says they have filed the necessary documentation and are now waiting a decision from PIASA.

In the meantime, passengers on inter Island Air's on demand charter flights have been routed to Polynesian and South Pacific Express Inc.

Inter Island operates charter flights to Manu'a and to Samoa.
