NZ's Foreign Affairs Minister disappointed Fiji's interim PM wil not be at meeting

The Foreign Affairs Minister, Murray McCully, says issues relating to Fiji were a major focus of his discussions with his Australian counterpart, yesterday.

Mr McCully met with the Australian Foreign Minister, Stephen Smith, in Perth, in what is the first of regular six-monthly talks.

The interim prime minister of Fiji, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, has said he will not attend next week's Pacific Forum meeting, in Papua New Guinea.

The Forum is to decide the fate of Fiji's membership in the group, because the island nation is not going to hold promised elections by March.

Mr McCully says he and Mr Smith are disappointed the Commodore won't be in Port Moresby to explain the delay in democratic elections.
