Manu'a member chosen for American Samoan senate

5:03 pm on 22 January 2009

A former American Samoan government treasurer, Velega Savali, will be the next senator for the villages of Ofu, Olosega and Sili in Manu'a.

The Manu'a seat had been left vacant because of differences among chiefs of the county on who should be their senator.

The other politician in line for the seat was a former Senate president Lolo Letalu Moliga.

Velega is to take up the Senate seat this week.
