PNG's taxi operators and owners must consult government body

Taxi operators and owners should consult the Independent Consumer and Competition Commission in Papua New Guinea for certification before applying for operating licence at the Transport Department.

The newspaper, The National, reports under the law, the country's taxi operators are required to install metres in their units starting this month.

But Commission was aware that it was expensive to install taxi metres and that some of them still have licences that were valid within their six-month period of operation.

The Commission is now gauging views from the general public and stakeholders on the conditions and operating issues regarding public motor vehicle buses.
