Samoa's parliament debates instant traffic fines

12:03 pm on 27 January 2009

Proposed legislation under the newly established Lands Transport Authority in Samoa is being debated in Parliament which will provide powers for instant fines for minor traffic offences.

If it is passed it will be the first time for such legislation in Samoa.

The current practice is for all minor traffic offences to be heard in court.

The Minister of Land Transport Authority, Tuisugaletaua Sofara Aveau, told parliament the new law should ease the back-log of traffic cases that currently go to court.
