12 people, including three children, are reported missing after the northwest of Guadalcanal and Savo Island was hit by torrential rain which washed away homes, bridges and affected about 1,800 families.

One of the fatalities has been reported from Savo Island.

"The police team which was sent to the affected areas and they confirmed that their were eight deaths and that the eight people that were earlier reported as missing are still missing as well as the three children."
