US Homeland Security allocates funds for Pacific territories

The United States Department of Homeland Security has allocated more than one million US dollars in security grant for the three U.S. Pacific territories of American Samoa, Guam and CNMI.

The departement says funding for the territories is part of fiscal year 2009 total grant of 48 million dollars for states and territories.

The grant, according to the federal government, is to prevent terrorism, reduce fraud, and improve the reliability and accuracy of personal identification documents that the states and territories issue.

American Samoa, Guam and CNMI is each allocated 600,000 dollars from this grant programme.
