Fiji military rejects Samoan PM's comments about force

The Fiji military has strongly criticised the comment made by the Samoan Prime Minister regarding the force.

In a statement, the military spokesman Major Neumi Leweni said such comments by Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi are indicative of Samoa's allegiance to New Zealand.

Major Leweni says Fiji is a sovereign country and should be left alone to deal with its affairs.

Tuilaepa had told the Samoa Observer that Fiji must get rid of its armed military forces for there to be peace in the country.

Fiji's armed forces have carried out four coups in 19 years, the last one in 2006.
