Solomon Islands takes over ACP Presidency

5:46 am on 9 February 2009

The Solomon Islands has again been chosen to hold the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group Presidency, after last holding it in 1989.

The Presidency of the ACP Group is a rotating position held by one of the six ACP regions every six months.

Solomon Islands' Ambassador to the European Union and United Kingdom took over the leadership role last week in Brussels from Burkina Faso of West Africa.

Continued negotiations over the Economic Partnership Agreement with the European Union remains one of the major issues which will dominate the Solomon Islands six-month Presidency.
