NZ Womens team's preparation for World Cup not easy

6:45 am on 18 February 2009

The New Zealand womens' sevens coach, Darryl Suasua, says selecting a team for the Rugby Sevens World Cup in Dubai next month hasn't been easy.

For the first time in the Cups history a womens' tournament will run alongside the mens competition.

However, Suasua says not having womens' sevens competition in New Zealand makes it more difficult to put a side together.

"I've often felt putting this team together is like the Jamaican bob sled team we don't have any sevens in the country at all, there's probably been one tournament in the whole year which the girls went to which is the Maori tournament which is run annually at Rotorua."

New Zealand will play South Africa, Uganda and Italy in Pool D.
