The National Committee on Prevention of Suicide in Fiji says more counselling and health advice must be offered to the mentally ill, following an increase in suicide cases.

The Fiji Times reports there was an increase of 50 suicide cases for 2008 compared with 2007.

It says in 2007 there were 58 suicides and 110 attempted suicides and last year suicides doubled to 102 and attempted cases rose to 116.
