Church service in Samoa to remember fire victims in Australia

9:47 am on 23 February 2009

Samoa's All Saints Anglican church is dedicating today's Sunday service to remembrance of the Australian fire victims.

The Australian High Commissioner in Apia, Matt Anderson, says the service is also to thank the Samoan government, community and church groups for their heartfelt prayers, condolences and solidarity this time.

More than 200 people have died, and 7,000 have been made homeless, and fires are still burning on the outskirts of Melbourne.

A condolence book has been opened at the Australian High Commission office this week for members of the public to record their thoughts and will be sent to the Premier of the state of Victoria, John Brumby
