A Member of Parliament and high ranking chief in Samoa, Va'ai Papu Solia, has been banished from the village of Vaisala following a decision by the village council.

An elderly matai of Vaisala says the village council decided to punish the MP and his family because his wife allegedly assaulted another woman of the neighboring village of Asau.

But the matai has declined to make public the reasons behind the assault and says it's a sensitive issue.

According to the elderly matai of Vaisala their village has apologized to the family of the woman who was allegedly assaulted by the MP's wife.
