Calls in Solomon Islands for temporary shelter for people displaced by king tides

There's been an urgent call by the Malaita Province Disaster Committee in Solomon Islands for temporary shelter to be provided for people displaced by recent king tides.

The Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation reports that around 180 people have relocated to Atori on the mainland from the affected areas at Kwai, Ngongosila, Walande and Fanalei.

Some houses and buildings in these areas have been badly damaged, and the Malaita Disaster Coordinator Pearson Simi says the affected families critically need temporary shelter.

The Provincial administration has yet to decide whether an environment impact assessment of the affected areas should be carried out.
