Rapist fathers get long prison terms in Samoa

4:33 pm on 3 March 2009

A 36-year-old father in Samoa has been jailed for 20 years for raping his 15-year-old daughter on six occasions.

The man had waited four years for the trial and that time in custody means he has another 16 years to serve.

The court was told the girl was threatened with beatings if she told anyone about the rapes.

In a similar case, a 46-year- old father has been jailed for ten years for one count each of rape and carnal knowledge.

Both men pleaded guilty.
