American Samoa Community College retains accreditation status

The American Samoa Community College has retained its accreditation status but it has been put on probation.

The College president, Dr. Seth Galeai says the accreditation team from the US-based Western Association of Schools and Colleges noted significant progress had been made in documenting and assessing student learning outcomes.

But it says there is more work needed to meet the US Department of Education standards for integrated planning.

Dr Galeai says integrated planning involves blending traditional Samoan cultural expectations where planning is most often done from the top down, with the Department's expectation that planning works best from the ground up and is broad based.

Dr Galeai said probation doesn't hurt the students' ability to receive financial aid or to transfer to other college or universities.
