The Papua New Guinea Government expects economic development and security concerns on the border areas to be given top priority with the creation of the Border Development Authority or BDA.
The Post Courier paper reports the government has allocated almost 28 million US dollars for BDA, which was launched this week in Port Moresby.
The board of directors for the authority were sworn in from a range of disciplines, but the obvious omission was security administration organisations such as the Police and the Defence Force.
The Finance Minister, Patrick Pruaitch, says the Government is committed to border development and will ensure it's properly funded to deal with development and security issues.
