The Solomon Islands Prime Minister, Dr Derek Sikua, has warned of tough times ahead as the global economic crisis nears the region.
He made this comment on the first day of the new session of Parliament.
"Solomon Islands, Mr Speaker, will not escape the effects. We are part of the global economic community and the global downturn will mean that we have to make our own hard decisions at home."
But Dr Sikua says his Government is already taking steps to soften the impact of the downturn.
