US ambassador to Fiji urges locals to rally against regime

The United States Ambassador in Fiji, Steve McGann is calling for people in the country to challenge the interim government to hold elections.

This comes after Fiji's interim Prime Minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama last week said he'd continue to defy the threat of suspension by the Commonwealth if his regime doesn't hold elections in the next six-months.

Mr McGann told Fijilive that the interim government hasn't shown a clear sign it plans to return to a constitutional government enforced by its people.

He says this isn't the way forward for the country and is urging locals to band together in an effort to push for democracy.
