The minimum wage in Samoa is under review by the Ministry of Trade, Commerce and Labour.
The general public and the private sector are being encouraged to submit their opinions for a final decision on whether an increase should be made to the current rate of less than one US dollar an hour.
The last increase was in 2000 but no increase has been made since, despite the government's policy to review it every two years.
A senior officer at the Ministry of Trade, Commerce and Labour says the general feeling among the public that the cost of living is too high shows an increase must be considered by the government.
However, the officer says it is a question for the private sector and employers whether they can afford an increase in the minimum wage at this time of financial strain.
