Solomon's government denies rumours of no confidence motion

4:48 pm on 13 March 2009

Solomon Island Coalition government has released a statement denying rumours that there is to be a motion of no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Dr Derek Sikua.

The Deputy Prime Minister, Fred Fono, described any schemes to try to oust the Sikua Government as "total waste of time and energy" in light of the tough times ahead.

The Deputy Prime Minister said members of Parliament, and in particular the Cabinet, should remain united since a lot of issues need to be addressed.

Mr Fono says people already know that any motion at these challenging times will only cause political instability and delay the implementation of government programmes.
