Payment of water bills allows reopening of clinics in Solomon's capital

The Honiara City Council in Solomon Islands had the Ministry of Home Affairs pay thousands of dollars for its outstanding water bills, which resulted in the closure of the majority of Honiara's local Clinic's over the past few days.

The clinics which serve more than one-hundred-thousand people had their water cut a few days ago forcing them to close.

The Water Authority has taken drastic measures to recoup on its revenue which has fallen since 2000 with many residences and organizations failing to pay their bills.

The Authority says close one million is outstanding from those who have not paid their bills.

To make matters worse, the amount of illegal water connections is also causing a headache for the authority.
