The executive council of Papua new Guinea's Morobe province has approved nearly 150-thousand US dollars to assist homeless Biangai villagers to rebuild their community after it was devastated by deadly violence last weekend.
Three people died after fighting erupted when hundreds of Watut tribesmen gathered in Wau and staged an early morning attack on the villages of Biangai tribe, forcing many to flee their homes.
The attack is being seen as part of an ongoing land dispute between the two tribes over ownership of a part of the McAdam National Park around the Hidden Valley Gold mine.
Morobe Governor Luther Wenge said the provincial government would assist the locals to pursue the case in court over the National Government's earlier negligence to resolve the ownership of the McAdam National Park.
He said the provincial disaster and emergency office would ensure the provincial government's relief funding was used accordingly.
