Independent Prosecutor's Office in American Samoa says approved funding not coming through

American Samoa's Attorney General, Fepuleai Afa Ripley Jr., has been summoned to appear in the High Court to answer questions as to why his office have yet to provide funding to operate the Independent Prosecutor's Office.

The Court appointed Independent Prosecutor, Fa'amomoi Masaniai, filed a motion seeking a status hearing, because no funds have been provided by the Attorney General's Office as mandated by law.

Mr Masaniai told the court that he cannot carry out his duties with out funding.

Governor Togiola Tulafono has informed the Treasury Department that Fepuleai's office is mandated by law to fund the independent prosecutor's office and operations.

Mr Masaniai is handling the investigation and prosecution of four former employees of the attorney general's office accused in the certificate of identity scam.
