More than 2000 nursing officers throughout Papua New Guinea have been paid the award they were promised in 2006.

The Post Courier reports the award was paid following a week-long strike last month by the nursing officers especially from the major hospitals around the country.

The PNG Nurses Association general secretary, Jack Suao said the 2617 nursing officers who were paid the ward were those on the government' s payroll system, but others were yet to be paid.
